Day 3: Bangkok and Ko Samui? right...

I promise this blog will be much better with pictures - just need a USB port.... Nothing can describe the heat though. It was 32 but the humidex was 41. I named New York the concrete jungle in my last trip but NYC doesn't even compare.

Today we shopped for local fruit. We were in a huge traffic jam between markets and saw people walking between cars with little white bags... we asked the cab driver what is was he said, "Bananas". So he bought some for us. Nice guy! We opened the bagged to find deep fried bananas... priceless. Our day to go healthy went right out the window. They were soooooooooo good though.

We then started to make our way to the airport to Ko Samui. On our way we went to the Bangkok International Car Show. (Agh Agh Agh - Tim "the toolman" Taylor) clearly not on Chelsea's to do but what sport, she walk the entire main floor with me. The cars we sweet - some were ugly. Prices were similar to Canada - over priced. But its funny seeing a 1.1 million on the windshield. The most photographed was not the cars but the women. It was more a model show than a car show.

So when we got the airport... sitting in the waiting area, we realized we weren't going to Ko Samui. Let's take a step back. Ko Samui is in the province of Surat Thani and when booking the flight, the destination I choose was Surat Thani area; not realizing that Surat Thani was in fact an actual city. It is on the mainland part of Thailand amd Ko Samui is on an island (Ko means island - you'll hear that word alot). There is an airport in Ko Samui. So this detour was an experience to remember.

After we knew where we were headed and too late to turn back we had to figure out how to get to Ko Samui and Ko Pha Ngan. It was by bus (1.5 hrs) and then ferry (2 hrs). We decided to stay in Surat Thani as it was night and the night ferry was too cheap ($2.50 compared to $10) and 6 hours. Im thinking robbery trap.

The hotel we checked into was hilarious. I turned on the water and it came out of the wall on to the floor. It eventually got to the drain. thank you Tara for the idea about using our own sheets - we used them. You get what you pay for.

They did have a night market and I saw an elephant hanging out in the middle of the intersection kinda of like a dog keeping watch. Of course we forgot our camera. It was a night market that was more for the town than the tourists. We were the minority and the only ones. Chelsea found a couple pairs of shoes for $6. It ended quite early compared to Bangkok. (10pm vs 1am)

The trip to Koh Pha Ngan left early - we decided to skip Ko Samui and hit it on our way back.
